This is the second of a 2-part article about Content Marketing. Click here for part 1 – Content is King.
Imagine owning the best amusement park in the country. It has the latest and greatest rides Filipinos will ever see. No one will ever be able to create something like this in our history. And what’s more, you’re offering it cheap. The tickets are such a bargain that it’s almost robbery.
Build it and they will come, right? Wrong! Nobody would even know it’s there. Why do you think the biggest brands in the world are also the biggest spenders on advertising? You have to tell the world that you exist. Otherwise, nobody will know that your park is even there. Content is king but it’s not enough.
Traditionally, you’d put up signs, buy tv, radio, and newspaper ads, maybe a billboard or two and you’d be set. But in case you haven’t noticed, it’s a whole new world. Society has gone digital. Online marketing has become an integral part of branding. If you’re still not doing it, you’re making the biggest mistake of your life. You’ve already missed the boat and your competitors will only widen the gap.
I like to call what I do as content seeding. Putting out feelers about products and letting the people of the internet spread the word. Two things are important for this to work. First, of course, is that it should be something worth talking about. People will not share what they find uninteresting. And second, you should know how to reach the influencers. These are the people in your industry that are considered as authority. The goal is to gain enough momentum so that the word goes out and becomes viral.
Don’t try to do this by yourself. If it’s easy, anyone and everyone can just do them. But it’s not. Hire professionals to handle them.
